September, and the harvest moon standing above the dunes in the morning,
so near that I believe to see the mountains and valleys on it. Now, they say, the Other World is closer to ours than ever.

There were many reasons to leave Switzerland in the mid-1980s: curiosity, a sense of adventure, and also fear. During the long nights spent in front of computer screens as a young economist, I imagined how their flickering gray would gradually settle on my face and shape my view of the world.

A combination of naivety, chance, and luck then brought me to Ireland, and today, over forty years later, I sometimes think back to those nights as I walk on the beach with my dogs. I don’t know if one can see the tides of the sea, the green hills, the restless clouds on my face, but the intuition from back then, that the places where we spend our live shapes it, has proven true.
